Feel Alive Again With 5HTP

Is life a struggle? Are you feeling tired and depressed? Do you want to know how you can get back on top of things without taking prescription drugs? Well read on…

Serotonin is the “Happy Drug” in the brain. Sometimes its level can fall causing a multitude of complaints. 5HTP is a new supplement that helps to make this chemical naturally, bringing the levels back up again without affecting the natural metabolic prosses of the brain unlike prescribed drugs such as Prozac.

5HTP will help various conditions such as anxiety, depression, insomnia and weight loss. Some people will get better results than others when using 5HTP, as like many other supplements they work differently on everyone. After 3 months it is best to take a break from 5HTP to see how you feel and re-evaluate.

It makes no difference what you are treating the dosage is always the same, starting with a low amount of 50mg. If you don’t feel any change after a while then it is safe to increase your dosage to 100mg. I would strongly recommend that you check with your GP if you want to take a higher dosage than this as you can start to feel side effects.

5HTP is no miracle weight loss pill. You will still have to decrease your food intake as this supplemnt only works as a food surpressant. What happens is that our Serotonin levels fall triggering a depression. When this happens we usually turn to food, namely chocolate or other fatty foods in the hope that this will make us feel better. By raising your Serotonin levels it stops us craving these high calorific foods.

Some side effects can be seen if you take a high dosage of 5HTP but usualy only occurs with dosages over 300mg. You need to be aware of how you are feeling and be alert for these side effects, another reason to take a break after 3 months. You may notice while taking the supplement a feeling of nausea, lack of libido, stomach cramps, and nightmares. For some people it may not be wise to take the supplement as it can make them worse. They include pregnant women, people with high blood pressure, lung disease, anorexia and if you suffer with haemophilia.

Also if you are taking anti-depressants, cancer treatment and antibiotics as well as some other drugs then you should not take 5HTP as these will already be increasing your Serotonin levels so in effect you will be overdosing on it which can lead to Serotonin Syndrome which can be very serious.

This is not an overnight miracle cure. It can take anything up to 3 weeks before 5HTP starts working on your problem, before you really start to notice any changes. Patience is the key.

5 HTP should be taken at night time roughly an hour before gong to bed. Your Serotonin levels will naturally increase while your body is resting, preparing you for what ever lies ahead for you tomorrow.

Addie Schultz has written an excellent article about 5htp and what dosage is safe to take. She has also included important information on its side effects too. We would recommend that you visit her site to find out more.
